SUSAN EMSHWILLER (writer/director/exec. producer) |
Susan was raised in Levittown on Long Island, N.Y., by writer Carol Emshwiller and avant-guard experimental filmmaker Ed Emshwiller. She got her BFA from Syracuse University in painting and printmaking. Ms. Emshwiller began working in film after getting her masters degree from California Institute of the Arts where she studied under Alexander Mackendrick (Man in the White Suit, Sweet Smell of Success). She has worked as a set decorator for many years, working for David Mamet, Michael Apted, Graeme Clifford, and notably working with Robert Altman on The Player, (in which she is a featured actress) Short Cuts, Kansas City, and Cookie's Fortune. Her directorial debut, the short film Breakfast Messages, won numerous festival awards and was shown on the A&E television network. Ms. Emshwiller has written and directed several plays including critically acclaimed and award winning "Brush Stokes", based on the paintings of Edward Hopper. She has written a number of film scripts, including screenplays for Amy Madigan, Bill Pullman, and co-written the academy award winning film Pollock for actor/director Ed Harris. In the Land of Milk and Money is her debut feature. |
GRETCHEN ENGEL (producer) |
Gretchen arrived at producing through work as Art Department Coordinator on such films as David Mamet's Spartan, Miguel Arteta's The Good Girl, Michael Mann's Collateral, and Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill. An alumnus of U.C. Berkeley, where she graduated summa cum laude with degrees in Art History and English Literature, Ms. Engel got her start in film by assisting the acclaimed German director Sonke Wortmann. |
GABOR SZITANYI (director of photography) |
Gabor has worked as both editor and director of photography. He is currently editing the feature Y.M.I. for director Marek Probosz. He was D.P. on the award winning feature The Young Unknowns for director Katherine Jelsky. He photographed a film installation piece for renowned still-photographer Carrie Mae Weems. Gabor edited the film Reunion and was D.P. on the feature Johnny Famous which won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2000 Hungarian Film Week. He provided additional photography on Todd Solondz acclaimed Welcome to the Dollhouse, and on the independent feature 1999. He was Director of Photography on the feature Welcome says the Angel, produced by Michael Kastenbaum, and on the feature-length documentary Love is Blind, directed by noted still photographer, Denis Piel. Short film credits include cinematographer for Family Remains (best short film, Sundance 1994) and Fugitive Love (Sundance 1993), Developing, and Kalamazoo. |
BETH SPIEGAL (editor) |
Beth is known for her poetic and original vision in editing. The programs she has edited for National Geographic, Turner Productions, Nature, Nightline, and Wonderworks have won numerous awards including several Emmys, Genesis Awards and an Oscar Nomination. In 1999 Ms. Spiegal won an EMMY for editing Dragons of the Galapagos. |
EGO PLUM (composer) |
Ego is a musician, composer, performer and visual artist renown for his unconventional and unsettling, quirky style. He is founder and director of the Ebola Music Orchestra who have performed throughout Southern California. His critically-acclaimed CD's Anthology of Infection, Vol. 1 and 2 include works written for several films, including The Jolly Man, Isolation and The Day the Clown Cried directed by Jerry Lewis. |
